The Tears of a Horse
By Brenda Riley Seymore
We have served man well since the dawn of time
Did we not carry you to war? Suffer and die beside you?
Though we have never understood why you kill each other
We were asked to shield you in battle with our bodies
Our flesh took the bullets and arrows meant for you
We plowed endless fields to grow your crops
We labored to remove boulders & tree stumps to clear the land so you could build your homes
We ran until our hearts were bursting to carry your mail.
We pulled covered wagons hundreds and hundreds of miles so that you could find a better life.
When winter’s winds were harsh and food scarce
Our lives were sometimes sacrificed to feed your families
It is the horse that has carried the burden of mankind
Through-out the ages
No other animal has given so much
You used us hard in those days long ago
You use us harder still
Now in this time there is no good purpose for our death
Yet you do nothing as we are slaughtered for meat
We are the last of wild horses
We are the horses you have crippled at the racetrack
The pony your child has outgrown
The horse that is too old to ride and is no longer useful
Even though we have given you all that we have
You do nothing to protect us
Where are your souls?
What profit is so great that it blinds you to this injustice?
I am but a beast of burden but it is man, not I, that should fear death
For horses shall walk through the gates of heaven unchallenged.
When it is your time to stand before God and be judged
Will you then hang your head in shame?
What will you say when God asks you
“What have you done to my horses?”- Brenda Riley Seymore had this to say:
Hey you guys....I love you both you are doing a great things to protect those that can't protect themselves...
