When I asked for people to share stories of their beloved pets with me, so I may pass them on to you, I thought it would be an uplifting experience. We’d all laugh, and cry, and have a good time, because all pet stories are great right?

Well that’s not necessarily true.

First off I want to thank justdawn for being brave enough to share this heartbreaking story.

“When I was in high school, I got a German Shepherd mix from the pound. She was the nuttiest dog EVER..but I totally adored her.

It was the summer after graduation when there was a rash of burglaries in my neighborhood.

I was coming home one night after having been out and I saw the sihlouette of a person fleeing my back yard...not realizing that the gate had been left open.

We got a phone call early the next morning from one of our neighbors letting us know that Sandy was lying in her yard, not moving, and that she didn't look good.

We rushed her to the vet, but after several x-rays it was determined that her internal injuries were just to extensive for her to be saved.

After a lot of heartache, I had to make the difficult decision to euthanize my beloved pet. I petted her, looking into her eyes and telling her how much I loved her and how grateful I was that she was willing to give her life to protect mine and my home as she silently slipped away..."

Sometimes saving a life means giving a life. The wonderful thing justdawn is Sandy was willing to do that for you. Not many people you meet in your lifetime would give their life for you, but Sandy did. So thank you again for reminding me that sometimes your pet will pay the ultimate price for you and rather than ignore that, lets celebrate it.

And secondly I would like to ask that our readers sponsor justdawn’s blogathon charity the National MS Society. She’s a mere $10 away from her goal of $100.

If 10 of you give $1 she’ll be able to make that difference for her charity and bring away a sense of purpose and accomplishment no one will take from her.

Remember you can sponsor anyone at the blogathon up to 6AM Tuesday Aug. 1st 2006.

Thanks again justdawn! Good luck!
